IELTS & PTE - Differences and Similarities
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing Standard. It is a test Conducted by Cambridge English Language Assessment, British Council, and IDP education. The purpose of the test is to check your proficiency in English Language.
PTE stands for Pearson Test of English. The purpose of the test is the same as IELTS; to check your English language proficiency. But unlike IELTS, PTE came into existence in 2009 by an educational company Pearson. Edexcel a renowned examining entities in The U.k. conducts this exam with Pearson.
There are two versions of these test, which is Academic and general, in both IELTS and PTE. For Students who want to go overseas for higher studies opt for Academic version. People who want to work or start their own business in an English speaking country, they have to clear the General version of IELTS or PTE.
There are four modules in both IELTS and PTE which are Reading, writing, listening and speaking. In IELTS the time for Reading, Writing and Listening exams is fixed and all these three exams are paper based. On the other hand in IELTS speaking module there is a one on one; face to face interview.
In PTE all the four modules are conducted on a computer. Unlike Ielts candidates can not go back and recheck the answers. In PTE test the score grades are automated based where candidate may score anywhere between 10 and 90.
Whereas IELTS is based on a band scale of 0 to 9 which is done manually. We can check our results online and we also get a Test Report Form within 10 to 15 business days of the test date. Computer based test PTE results are available within 5 business days of the exam date and we can check result online.
Both PTE and IELTS is accepted by so many colleges and universities around the world. We suggest you to confirm the requirement of the desired country and university. Time management is important in IELTS as well as PTE.
IELTS and time management: The IELTS Reading module requires the test-taker to read three passages and answer 40 questions in 60 minutes. Test-taker can work at his/her own pace. But how much time should he/she be spending on reading and how much time on answering the questions? IELTS writing Module requires test-taker to complete two writing tasks within the given time limit.
